Volunteering for the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships is a great way to get involved in what will be the largest international sporting event ever held in Atlantic Canada. Up to 1000 athletes from 75 countries are coming to Lake Banook in Dartmouth, NS from August 12 to 16.
The Canadian Press, POZNAN, Poland - Mark Oldershaw of Burlington, Ont., captured gold in the 5,000-metre canoe singles Sunday while Gabriel Beauchesne-Sevigny of Trois-Rivieres, Que., won silver to cap the second stop on the World Cup paddling circuit. Oldershaw added a silver in the C-1 1,000 while Olympic kayak medallist Adam van Koeverden of Oakville, Ont., took the bronze in the K-1 1,000.
After an eventful and windy weekend of racing in Welland, Ontario, several Burloak athletes were nominated to Canadian teams for the 2009 season.
