Burloak Canoe Club member and Canadian Olympic athlete, Adam van Koeverden presented two of his K-1 Olympic sprint kayaks to The Canadian Canoe Museum for its permanent collection. This 27 year-old sprint kayaking star has earned Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals at the Athens and Beijing Olympics as well as several Worlds and other International championships.
“These will be wonderful additions to our collection” said Curator Jeremy Ward. “As well as commemorating the accomplishments of a great Canadian athlete, they are a bridge between the historic racing kayaks already in our collection and today’s high-tech competitive craft.” Visitors will have an opportunity to see van Koeverden’s boats up close.
Adam’s boat will join fellow Burloak Canoe Club members, Larry Cain’s and John Wood’s in The Canadian Canoe Museum permanent collection. “To have three of our members’ boats in The Canadian Canoe Museum permanent collection is testimony to Burloak’s Winning Tradition in our sport” says Robert Dance, Commodore of Burloak Canoe Club.
The Canadian Canoe Museum is North America's only canoe museum. Caring for almost 600 canoes and kayaks, as well as thousands of related artifacts, the museum's collection is the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. Learn more about the museum by visiting www.canoemuseum.ca.
